The W3NA Program about Illegal Dumping last night was highly successful, in my opinion. Three guests from the City joined us and gave an overview of the problem and answered questions. The guests were Assistant City Manager Albert Elias, Environmental Services Director Andrew Quigley, and Code Enforcement Supervisor Rick Saldate (filling in for Interim Head of Code Enforcement Michael Wyneken who was unavailable due to a death in the family).
Illegal dumping is an ongoing problem in some neighborhoods, most notably in high-rental areas with frequent turnover. When tenants move, they sometimes leave unwanted furniture, mattresses, etc at the curb or in the alley. If no one assumes responsibility, it becomes "Orphan Trash." Sometimes it remains for months.
